The women’s final was a one sided event, Larissa-Juliana BRA beating Branagh-Youngs USA 2-0 (21-12, 21-15). Clearly the better side, Larissa-Juliana had an answer to everything, wrapping up the Gold medal in just under 40 minutes.
For my money, the result of the tournament was the fourth place for the local girls Montagnolli-Hansel AUT who lost to Ross-Kessy USA for in the bronze medal match, but thrilled the Austrian crowd with some great volleyball throughout the week, beating the top seeded Braxilians Talita-Antonelli in the quarter finals, and also taking care of the 6th seeded Germans Goller-Ludwig (coached by Craig Seuseu) in the previous round. There’s nothing an Austrian enjoys more than beating a German
Akers-Turner USA finished a respectable 5th, getting knocked out by Larissa-Juliana BRA (18-21, 18-21). Angela Akers spent some time on the Aussie training under Kerri Pottharst a few years back.
