I was reading up on the World championship results last week on ESPN. Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann of Germany beat the top-seeded Brazilians, Harley and Alison in straight sets 21-16, 21-19 to take out the mens. April Ross and Jennifer Kessy from the USA won the womens 30-28, 23-21 beating Brazilians Larissa and Juliana. That’s a pretty bad day for Brazil 😉
Brink Reckermann have backed up again and won the event in Gstaad, which brings them tantalisingly close to being ranked world number one.
According to ESPN the Magazine, Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann are the first European team to have ever won the mens World Champs, and they are also the first German team to have ever won back to back events. ESPN has a pretty good coverage of the Stavanger event. There are a lot of good pics if you run a search for “beach volleyball”.
