About beach training
Beachtraining.com is a blog about beach volleyball training for beach volleyball players at all levels of skill and fitness. It contains drills, hints and tips, fitness programs, beach volleyball stories, discussions, news about various tours and events, terminology and advice on all aspects of the sport.
Categories
On the right hand side of each page, you will find a “Categories” list which allows you to flick through the different posts quickly. I have arranged the drills into Advanced and Basic, and by the minimum number of players required. Each drill, post or discussion is also organised by the skills contained, so you can find resources on each skill by using the “Skills” sub menu. (I.e. Dig, Set, Spike, Receive, Serve, Block, Shot).
Searching
The search function at the top of the screen will allow you to quickly find information based on keywords in the post. For example, if you want some help working on your jump server, try searching for “Jump serve”
The information comes from a variety of sources, but mostly from my own experiences playing and training.
Since moving away from an indoor volleyball career path in 1997 to focus on an beach volleyball, I have been fortunate enough to meet some of the best players in the world. Most of the drills, tactics and tips come from training with and playing against guys like; Julien Prosser, Mark Williams, Canyon Ceman, Dain Blanton, Jeff Nygaard, Lee Zahner, Kirk Pittman, Jason Lochhead, Josh Slack, Andrew Schacht, Sinjin Smith, Carl Henkel, Ricardo Santos, Ze Marco de Melo and countless others, most of whom are not quite so famous
I should also note that I have gained a huge amount of knowledge from my own playing partners, in particular (In order of seniority
) Fulvio DiPrinzio and Victor Anfiloff.
So who am I?
My name is Tristan Boyd. As I said previously, I have never been a professional beach volleyballer. But while I never made a living from beach volleyball, for one season I had the most lucrative beach volleyball sponsorship deal in Australia. I never managed to qualify for a World tour main draw, but came within a few points (losing in the final round to Blanton/ Fonoimoana a month before they won a gold medal in Sydney). I have never been a beach volleyball National Champion, but have been 2nd and 3rd in two different countries, and most importantly, I have had a lot of fun, I have learnt a lot along the way,…. and it’s not over yet
I hope you find the contents of this website useful. If you have any ideas on ways I can improve it, or requests for articles, drills or advice, please feel free to send it through. I’d be very happy to hear from you.
